Dear all, I am pleased to announce that Michelle Gardner has been selected as the Global Health Division (GHD) senior vice president (SVP). Michelle will begin her new role on October 17. A collaborative and strategic leader, Michelle has more than 20 years of experience leading and managing health and development programs and teams, including 15 years in the field. As Chemonics’ chief of party for USAID’s largest health project in the Philippines, the $34 million Private Sector Mobilization for Family Health – Phase 2 project, Michelle successfully led a team of 90 staff across the Philippines to mobilize private sector resources in the delivery of family planning and maternal and child health information, services, and products. Previously, she spent eight years as country program leader for PATH in Vietnam and Cambodia, where she managed all aspects of PATH’s programs - including HIV/AIDS, maternal and reproductive health, child health, infectious diseases, immunization, malaria and tuberculosis projects – and demonstrated her strategic vision by coordinating and interlinking several project activities to implement a programmatic strategy in Vietnam. Michelle’s strong management skills and key donor and government relationships also enabled her to grow the programming in Vietnam, despite a shrinking funding environment. Beyond the roles above, Michelle spent seven years in the field with the Population Council, and also seconded to the World Health Organization for two years, working effectively with national governments and international stakeholders managing reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, and other health programs in Myanmar, Vietnam, and Indonesia. Most recently, Michelle has spent almost two years as a project director in the Asia region, where she directed the Punjab Enabling Environment Project team, assumed a variety of new business leadership roles across the company, and has been recognized by others as consistently respectful, engaging, and effective. Michelle holds an MSc in Medical Demography from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Overall, Michelle has the strategic vision, collaborative leadership, health technical skills, commitment to staff development, and significant management experience to successfully lead GHD. We are excited to welcome her to the Executive Management Team, and ask that you please join me in congratulating Michelle as she assumes this new position. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your SVP, Susi, Eric, Will, or me.
