The influx of Germanic Peoples over

The influx of Germanic Peoples over several generations gradually caused the over imposition of their languages to Latin and the Celtic languages previously spoken in Britain. By 700 AD, this new language was already different from its sister Germanic languages and became known as Angle-saxon or Old English.

Old English was firstly written using Runes and they consist mainly of scratched marks on wood, bone or stone. But then, came one of the most important events in the history of English. towards the end of the 6th Century, as the Anglo-Saxons converted to Christianity they began to write things down on parchment, often done with the Roman alphabet.

Old English is essentially the first recorded version of English and it is the forebear of the language we speak today. Although a modern English speaker probably would have great difficulty in understanding written or spoken Old English, about half the words we use today are derived from Old English.

And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth into the city of David, which is called Bethlehem (because he was of the house and linage of David) to be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
